Nursery: If you would be interested in volunteering to help in the nursery the coming year, you may sign your name on the sign-up sheet outside the nursery.  Please indicate how often you would like to serve.  Linda Wright is our coordinator.  She will use that information in preparing the nursery calendar for this coming year.  Thank you very much for considering this ministry.

Sunday Evening Study Group:  We are returning to our discussions tonight after a 2-week break for Christmas.  You will once again need your Bibles and your handouts   Come ready to think and to interpret.  We meet from 6-8pm with a break at 7pm for food and fellowship.  It is never too late to join the group, so please join us on the 3rd if you have interest.  (Childcare is available)

Advent & Epiphany Sunday: I have truly enjoyed being with you all at Advent as we anticipated Christ’s coming on Christmas morning.  Last Sunday, we lighted the Christ Candle and welcomed Him into our midst.  This morning is Epiphany Sunday and remembers the visit of the Magi to the home of the Christ child.  As they did so many centuries ago, we will also come this day to worship the Christ child.  We will sing together, and bring in the New Year in the observance of Communion.  As the Magi, we will bow in worship of this child, King, and Saviour.

Communion Sunday, January 3rd: Thank you to all who have already made this a wonderful Sunday.  We met at 9:30am for opening exercises (the SS Honeyseeker set sail for a New Year’s adventure). We attended our Sunday school classes, but had bagels, spreads, cookies, and other treats to take to class
with us.       Again, thank you for a wonderful beginning to the day.

Prayer Meeting: This coming Wednesday we will gather for prayer for the church, the annual meeting, our community, and for people and concerns around the world.  All are welcome…please join us.

Elders’ Meeting: The elders will meet this coming Wednesday at 7pm.

Small Group meeting: The Binder/Campbell small group will meet together this coming Friday evening, January 8th.  We meet at 6pm for the Fellowship meal and then 7:15 for singing, prayer, and discussion.

Annual Meeting: The governing board calls for the Annual Meeting of the Port Allegany Alliance church on Sunday afternoon, January 31st, following the morning worship service.  We will meet about 12:30pm and begin our meeting with a Soup and Sandwich Buffet.  Somewhere during dessert, the meeting will begin. We will review the annual reports (which you will have already received via e-mail the previous week.  We will elect officers, and then close our meeting.  All are invited.

Annual Reports: Annual reports will be due from the governing board members, coordinators, etc., by Wednesday, January 20th.  We will collate the reports and send them to the congregation via e-mail before Sunday the 24th.
Nominating Committee Report: The report of the Nominating Committee will be posted next Sunday, January 10th, on the bulletin board in the foyer so that it may be posted for 4 Sundays.

Epiphany Sunday
1After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem 2and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?  We saw his star in the east and have come to worship him.”  3When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.  4When he had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.  5“In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written:6 ‘But you Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people Israel.’”  7Then Herod called the magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the star had appeared.  8He sent them to Bethlehem and said, “Go and make careful search for the child.  As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him.”  9After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. 10When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.  11On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother, Mary, and they bowed down and worshipped him.  Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, and of incense, and of myrrh.  12And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.                                  Matthew 2:1-12
